The Emirates ID is a mandatory document for all UAE residents. It gets issued after the visa has been stamped into one’s passport and is valid for the same length of time as one’s visa.
Emirates ID uses
The Emirates ID is required for a variety of activities, including filling out applications for
various government services (such as DEWA and others), supporting dependents who are
travelling with you, renting a residence and getting through the electronic immigration gates
at the airports of UAE.
How to check if an already existing Emirates ID or visa is still valid?
You can check if you are uncertain of the actual date of expiration or if you are overseas and
unsure if your UAE resident status is still valid.
You need to click on the link below to have access to the website of Federal Authority of
Identity and Citizenship (FAIC)

Checking the Application Status of Emirates ID
It is possible to check on the progress of your ID application or renewal after you have
submitted it. You’ll need either your Emirates ID or your registration application number to
look up your registration status (you can check it on the application form).
What are the steps of checking the ID status?
Go to www.ica.gov.ae to access the Federal Authority of Identity and Citizenship (FAIC)
online service. The Check ID status menu option can be found on the first page, at the right
side. Type in your Application Number or Emirates ID number (without the hyphen). The
current Application status will appear in a popup box. FAIC’s website allows you to monitor
the status of your ID request at any time. If you have any problems obtaining the
comprehensive status from the internet, you can call the authorities at 600 522222. They will
give you an honest assessment of where your application stands.
Procedure of getting Emirates ID
The process of applying for a UAE visa also includes applying for an Emirates ID. The cost
of your UAE residence visa and Emirates ID will typically be bundled together if you work
with a business setup consultancy firm. The visa fee varies per Emirate and issuing authority.
Pricing ranges from 2,500 AED to 7,000 AED.
Process
1. Entry permission application: Those who have set up a business in the United Arab
Emirates (UAE) or those who have been engaged by a UAE-based company are
eligible to apply for a work visa. The residency visa has the authority to issue an entry
permit. Each visa applicant receives their own unique electronic document. The
ENTry Permit is valid for the period of 60 days. The resident visa will be stamped
into your passport when you have passed a medical exam and applied for an Emirates
ID card within this time frame.
2. Compulsory Medical check-up: After receiving an entry visa, a medical
examination is required. You can get this done at any clinic devoted to preventive
medicine. HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, and tuberculosis screenings are all performed. Get
the test results back and proceed with the visa application if they’re satisfactory.
Additional testing will be performed if one of these disorders is suspected. If any of
these are proven to be true, you will not be granted a resident visa to the United Arab
Emirates.
3. Emirates ID application: This can be accomplished at any office of the Federal
Authority for Identity and Citizenship. For convenience, many places of business are
situated in close proximity to PMCs. Your fingerprints and the retinas of your eyes
will be scanned as part of the application process. The Authority will store your
biometric information so you won’t have to go through scanning again when it’s time
to renew your Emirates ID.
4. The Visa Stamping: Passports must be stamped with a UAE visa as the final stage in
becoming a resident of the UAE. Visas typically last for 3 years, although employees
in free zones or on the Mainland may be eligible for a shorter 2-year visa. Residents
of the United Arab Emirates have their Emirates IDs linked to the length of their
visas
Cost of Emirates ID
It depends on the validity of the ID. It’s 170 AED for the validity of one year, 270 for two
and 370 for three years.
Verify that the expiration date on your identification matches that of your visa before
submitting an application. After having the visa stamped into your passport, you will need to
wait 7-10 days to receive the ID card. While we’re working on your ID, we’ll send you
periodic updates through text message. The ID can be picked up from a specific Emirates
Post location when it’s ready.
Renewal of Emirates ID
The government allows everyone 30 days after their ID has expired to renew it. Late renewal
penalties amount to AED 20 per day. The government will contact you through text message
to remind you to update your identification. To proceed with the renewal process, you must
fill out an application and pay the associated expenses. Since your fingerprints and facial
images were taken during the initial ID card processing, there will be no need to update them.
If you need to renew your visa, you’ll need to submit the ID renewal form first. If your visa
was issued by a mainland company, you must submit it to that business, whereas if your visa
was issued by a free zone, you must submit it to the Immigration authority (General
Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs). ID will be provided after visa renewal and
delivered via your nearest Emirates Post office.
Cancellation of Emirates ID
The cancellation of your identification document is a required component of the termination
of your status as a permanent resident. If you want your visa cancelled, you’ll need to give
your card to your respective employer or the immigration authorities.
Meaning of Emirates ID number
The long 15 digit numbers as four parts
The first number appears on every card and stands for the country code for the United Arab
Emirates, which is 784. The second number typically corresponds to the year you were born,
however this is not always the case. The last segment is made up of 7 meaningless digits that
were generated at random by the algorithm. The fourth digit is merely one, and it represents a
verification number that can be any number from zero to nine.
The ID number is unique to each individual and will never change. It is final and cannot be
altered. If you quit being a resident of the United Arab Emirates and move out of the country,
the residency card number will remain the same in case you ever decide to return and apply
for residency again.
In the event that you misplace your Emirates ID, please follow these procedures
Please report the lost ID at the nearest police station. It will set you back 70 AED to use this
service. Report the loss of the card to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship
within 7 days. A new card can be obtained by paying 300 AED at any office of the Federal
Authority for Identity and Citizenship and an extra application cost of 70 AED if applying in
person or 40 AED if applying online. The total cost is 370 AED (or 340 AED for students).
The Emirates Post Office is where you may get your replacement card.
Conclusion
The procedure to obtain an Emirates ID is simple and quick. It’s taken care of at the same
time as your visa application. In most cases, your company will handle the visa application if
you need one for work. You can apply for a business visa or freelancer visa on your own, or
you can pay a business setup advisory firm like Emirabiz to perform the paperwork and
legwork for you. FAIC’s website allows you to monitor the status of your ID request at any
time.
