Apply For A New Emirates Id Card
Applying for a fresh Emirates ID card can be conveniently done through the official website of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security – ICP or via an authorized typing centre.
It is possible that a visit to one of the ICP service centres is required for providing biometric particulars. It is advisable to refer to the ICP website to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the application process, necessary documents, and fees pertaining to obtaining an Emirates ID.

Obtaining Emirates Id within 24 Hours
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security offers an expedited service called ‘Fawri’ to acquire an Emirates ID card within 24 hours. This service can be availed of by UAE nationals and GCC nationals residing in the UAE for the
- first-time registration,
- renewal of expired cards, or
- for lost or damaged cards.
The regular fees apply along with an additional fee for the urgent service.
However, for expatriate residents other than GCC nationals, urgent service is only available for card replacement. This is because the issuance or renewal of identity cards is linked to residency and related procedures, which require documentation.
To obtain the ‘Fawri’ service, applicants can visit the FAIC Customer Happiness Centres without prior notice and present the required documents. Fawri service is available at the following ICP Customers Happiness Centres:
- Al Jazeera and Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi
- Al Barsha, Al Rashidiya and Karama in Dubai
- Madinat Zayed in the Western Region
- Al Ain Centre
- Sharjah Centre
- Ajman Centre
- Fujairah Centre
- Ras Al Khaimah Centre
- Umm Al Quwain Centre.
How to update your Emirates ID information?
If there are any changes in your personal or biometric information, such as name, address, or photo, you need to update it on your Emirates ID. You can update it online or in person at an Emirates ID service center. To update it online, follow these steps:
- Go to https://icp.gov.ae/en/service/data-update/
- Enter your Emirates ID number and the verification code.
- Click on “View”.
- Click on “Update information” and follow the instructions.
No documents needed just pay the eservice fees which is AED 50.
What to do if your Emirates ID is expired?
If your Emirates ID card has expired, you have 30 days from the date of expiry to renew it. After this period, late fines will be charged.
It is important to note that the ID holder must apply for the renewal of their Emirates ID card after it expires. You will receive a notification via SMS from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) requesting you to renew your ID card.
You can apply for the ID card renewal service through the ICP website or the ICP app, which is available on Google Play, the App Store, and Huawei, or you can go to an accredited typing centre. You may need to visit one of ICP’s service centres to provide your biometric details.

- Click on “Renew your residency or Emirates ID” and select “ID card Information”.
- Enter your Emirates ID number and the verification code.
- Click on “View”.
- Click on “Renew now” and follow the instructions.
- You will need to provide a valid UAE residence visa, a passport-size photo, and pay the renewal fees.
- For Emirates ID renewal, UAE nationals can apply between one to six months before the expiry date. However, for UAE residence visa holders, they can only apply for renewal when their residence visa is renewed or reissued.
- The renewal process takes around 7-10 working days. However, it may take longer if additional documents or verifications are required.

What to do if your Emirates ID is lost or damaged?
If you have lost, suspect it has been stolen, or damaged your Emirates ID card, you must request a replacement from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) as soon as possible. Here are the steps to follow:
- Report the incident: Visit the nearest ICP Customer Happiness Centre and report the incident. The lost or stolen card will be deactivated immediately. If you don’t have a copy of the lost ID, ask ICP for ID number confirmation. If your card is damaged, bring the old card with you. You’ll need to bring identification papers to prove your identity.
